This planned\nBlog-Series is dedicated to Power BI with Paginated Reports. The first part\nhandles who to start with this Feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paginated\nReports are known from Reporting Services to create pixel perfect fitting\nreports, especially for Printouts and it is more an Feature of Power BI. Before\nPower BI comes to on premises, it was the only web reporting technology on the\nMicrosoft BI Stack \u2013 to be honest, Microsoft Mobile Reports is was only a technology\nthat was used from SSRS 2016 to Microsoft Power BI SSRS \u2013 launched in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, Paginated\nReports is not a new technology and you find in the internet a whole bunch of\ninformation how it can be used, and which features are included. Actually, this\nPower BI Feature is only for testing and it is not GA. So many data sources and\nfeatures are not supported, you\u2019ll find more information at https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/power-bi\/paginated-reports-faq<\/a>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Okay, let\u2019s\nstart to create our first report:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. You need a Power BI Tenant with a\nPro License
    \nYou can also create a Office 365 Trial Tenant
    \n    https:\/\/signup.microsoft.com\/Signup?OfferId=02f65c1d-8b54-4d83-8941-fff22869499c&dl=ENTERPRISEPREMIUM_NOPSTNCONF&ali=1<\/a><\/li>
  2. You need a paid Azure Tenant on a\ncorporate mail address.
    \nIf you create a trial on Office 365, you can also use the behind azure tenant     https:\/\/portal.azure.com<\/a> and create a trial\nwith USD 200 for free.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    \n\nAfter completing this prerequisite, you can\ncreate a Embedded Resource, which handles the workload for the Paginated\nReports \u2013 at least it must be minimum an A4, this Plan covers the P1 resource\nfrom the Premium Plans.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Click on the name and assign a workspace<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    Activate the Paginated Reports Feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    After committing this page, your workspace\nbecomes a diamante after his name, this symbol shows you, that the workspace uses\npremium capacities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Now you are able to upload Paginated Reports.\nTo create a report, you need the Power BI Report Builder https:\/\/powerbi.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/power-bi-paginated-report-builder-now-available\/<\/a>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    After you successfully installed the Report\nBuilder, you can create a Blank Report. Now let\u2019s add a data source:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Choose as a data source driver \u201cEnter Data\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNext\nadd a new dataset and choose the new data source

    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Click on \u201cQuery Designer\u201d and enter some data.\nIn this case enter some some Years, name the column \u201cYear\u201d and change the\ndatatype to \u201cInteger\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    After you have entered some data, press okay on\nthe Query Window Dialogue and make a right click on the report canvas to add a\nnew table:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Next drag and drop the year column from the dataset\ninto the table<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    Now, you can save the report on your hard drive\n\u2013 I named it \u201cFirst Paginated Report\u201d. Currently the is no option to save the\nreport directly to PowerBI.com. (Please note, when you go to the preview of the\nreport designer, in the most cases no data will be displayed in the report\ndesigner – but no worries, on the Power BI Tenant it works correctly)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Next let\u2019s go to the Power BI tenant and choose our workspace with the assigned capacities and choose Create and Dataset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Click on Files – Get.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    On the next windows choose local file and\nselect our newly created Paginated Report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Now you will find your newly created reports in the „Reports“ section<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    That\u2019s it! You have created and deployed a\nPaginated Report. Now you can view it also in the mobile app, print it and\nexport it to other file formats. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    After that, please pause your Azure SKU for\nPower Embedded. Because if it is paused, it does not cost any money!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
